Hand water pump - Alapur, Biswanath, Sylhet, Bangladesh

Background

Al Ummah Foundation received a request from a donor who contacted us via our web enquiry form, to install a hand water pump ( tube well ) in a rural village of Alapur, Sylhet, Bangladesh. Donor requested AUF team to visit and assess the needs of the two families . Our team in Bangladesh visited the village and carried out an assessment of the two families and provided an appraisal for Al Ummah Foundation board consideration.

It has been identified that both families currently consume water from houses outside of their local vicinity. There is a hand water pump a couple houses down, however, sadly as with many situations in Bangladesh, the owners of the hand water pump do not allow others to use it, mainly because of fear of it breaking. Therefore, the two families are unable to get access to clean water within close walking distance. They don’t even have a pond nearby. The families walk a considerable distance to get water. Providing a hand water pump in this location will help ease their worry of where to get water from in the future.

The families are all very poor and do not have a steady source of income; therefore, they rely on doing odd jobs and work in other people’s homes as a way of making money. The potential beneficiaries’ homes were built by a generous donor previously. Providing these families with a tube well is vital as it will ensure that these families have unlimited access to fresh, clean water for drinking, domestic use and bathing, without someone else denying them access. Having a tube well will also ensure that surrounding families have access to water, as the families have stated they will not restrict others from accessing their tube well.

Outcome

The project was approved in June 2021 and completed by Oct 2021. The hand waterpPump has been installed in the land of the beneficiary and is in an open area where it will be accessible to anyone, without any restriction. As a result of this project, the two families now have unlimited access to fresh clean water, for drinking, domestic use and bathing and would not need to walk a long distance to get access to clean water.

This hand water pump was donated by the Donor as Sadaqah Jariyah for her Grandmother who past away recently. May Allah (SWT) grant her grandmother the highest place in Jannah.
