Al Ummah Foundation received a request to install a hand water pump ( tubewell ) in a rural village of Bani pur in Sunamganj, Bangladesh. Currently these families consume water from nearby house. The owner of the hand water pump do not like others using it, mainly for fear of breaking. This owner is now looking at closing off the access. Currently these families consume water from nearby house. The owner of the hand water pump do not like others using it, mainly for fear of breaking. This owner is now looking at closing off the access. This is a common situation in some areas of Bangladesh. As a result of this, the families can not always freely access clean water and soon may need to travel longer distances to get clean water. Providing water well in this location will help ease their worry of where to get water from in future.

The families are all very poor and do not have a steady source of income; instead, they rely on doing odd jobs and work in other people’s houses as a way of making money. Providing these families with a tube well is vital as it will ensure that these families have unlimited access to fresh, clean water for drinking, domestic use and bathing, without someone else denying them access. Having a tube well will also ensure that surrounding families have access to water, as the families have stated they will not restrict others from accessing their tube well.

Outcome

The Hand Water Pump has been installed in the land of the beneficiary and is in an open area where it will be accessible to anyone, without any restriction. As a result of this project, the families can again have unlimited access to fresh clean water, for drinking, domestic use and bathing and won’t need to go into anyone else’s house to get water.
